“A Simple Killing” Shortlisted for Best Short Film at the Shark Awards
A Simple Killing, featuring a score by Irish composer Emer Landers, has been shortlisted for Best Short Film - Ireland at the prestigious Shark Awards. Now in its 63rd year, the festival is one of the longest-running creative awards in the world, celebrating excellence in advertising, design, short film, and music video. This recognition further cements the film’s impact on the festival circuit following its world premiere at the Raindance Film Festival in London and its U.S. debut at the Newport Beach Film Festival.
Directed by Jason Branagan and produced by Emer Durcan of Western Front Studios and Mark DeCarreau of Five Line Films, A Simple Killing is an atmospheric horror that follows Mai, a woman on the brink of ending her own life, whose plans are suddenly disrupted when a desperate, pregnant stranger appears at her door. Shot at Bellefield House and Gardens in Shinrone, County Offaly, the film was awarded €10,000 from the Film Offaly Short Film Bursary 2023 and features performances by Daphne Cheung, Claire Gavin, and Aidan O'Callaghan.
