Eldritch Karaoke nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the Irish Animation Awards

Eldritch Karaoke has been nominated for Best Animated Short Film at the upcoming 2025 Irish Animation Awards, which will take place on 24th May at the Galway Bay Hotel. This nomination highlights the film’s bold visual style and genre-blending originality, and marks another major milestone for the team behind this unique animated short.

Directed by Joe Loftus, Eldritch Karaoke is a darkly comic, horror-infused musical that follows a woman’s surreal journey through the afterlife after a fatal accident. The animation has already made waves on the international festival circuit, with screenings at the 36th Galway Film Fleadh, Belfast International Film Festival, and Animation Dingle 2025.

Earlier this year, the film was awarded the Jury Prize for Best Sound & Music at the Horror Underground Film & Screenplay Festival in Canada- an award shared by composer Emer Landers and sound designer Dominic Lawrence. The immersive soundscape features a live performance by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, vocals by members of musical theatre society Entracte, and expert mixing by John Elleson-Hartley.

Animation Ireland’s sixth awards ceremony promises an evening of celebration, entertainment, and recognition for the exceptional work being produced across the Irish animation, VFX and gaming sectors. This nomination is a testament to the collaborative spirit and creative ambition behind Eldritch Karaoke, and the growing international presence of Irish animation talent.
