The Ick - Storyland 2025 Drama Premieres 8 December on RTÉ2
The Ick, a new Storyland drama featuring an original score by Irish film composer Emer Landers, premieres on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player on Monday, 8 December 2025, at 9:30 pm.
Written and directed by Jason Branagan, produced by Playbook Media (Producer: Aaron Chalke), The Ick is part of the 2025 slate of four new Storyland dramas commissioned by RTÉ and Fís Éireann/Screen Ireland.
The story follows an image‑obsessed dater who contracts a mysterious condition that causes her to embody the worst traits of past romantic rejections. As her condition worsens, she’s forced to confront her own superficiality before the “ick” consumes her — or someone else. The production stars Sophie Vavasseur, Hannah Mamalis and Jack Hickey.
The score takes a dark hybrid sound‑design approach: it supports the horror elements of the piece while also embracing the emotional core of the story through lighter electronic and instrumental textures. This addition strengthens Emer’s ongoing portfolio across short film, animation, and television.
As part of Storyland’s 2025 output, The Ick joins three other dramas — reflecting RTÉ and Screen Ireland’s commitment to nurturing new Irish writers, directors, producers, actors and composers.
Tune in on 8 December on RTÉ2 or catch up on RTÉ Player to experience The Ick in full.
